The Depression Era

I needed a fast article to write for this class, and the first thing I thought about was this since there was an add on my screen saying how there are local therapists for depression, and then I thought about this kind of depression, and I say sure why not. Because not everyone knows what this Era was anyways, so here we go.

The Depression Era: an era filled with economic depression. Not actual depression. Let’s get that one straight. Another thing is that we will be talking on how most of the people were during this era. Keep in mind that I will be trying to make this generalized, but the fact of the matter is that different places had different effects. I might not be completely accurate for every place, but I will try my hardest. So yeah, might as well get started right?

The Great Depression hit everyone hard. Like a flaming semi-truck. From the old to the young, it didn’t matter where you were, the stock market crash really did affect everyone. Many young kids no longer went to schools because no one ever had the money to pay for it. Most of the kids during this time would be very lucky or rich in order to get an education during this time. On top of that, so many kids were malnourished since there wasn’t enough food to go around. Sometimes even parents would leave kids in orphanages because they weren’t able to pay for the support for them. This was actually pretty heart breaking to see, because no parent ever wants to get rid of their child, but they still had to because the orphanage payed for both food and housing. The parents sometimes couldn’t afford these, so they did what they thought was best for their child.

As for teenagers, they had a rather interesting life. Most of them would be off in search of jobs because most of these teenagers would feel like they were a burden to their family, or were ashamed that they didn’t have a job. They did what any adventure craving teenagers would do — they left their home and roamed the country in search for a job. They would often hitch rides on trains in order to get from place to place; and there would be a huge number of them roaming the United States — more than 250,000. These teenagers would be roaming the country in search of a job or anything close to it. Some people did admire them, but most of the people saw them as a danger or threat mainly due to the fact that they had almost no restraints or possessions, and so many of these teenagers were actually arrested if they were caught.

As for most other adults, bankers had almost little to no jobs since the stock market crashed and many banks closed. Farmers also had it rough. They didn’t sell as much, so they always had to raise their prices until finally, most of the farmers had to give up almost all of their land. Some adults didn’t even have jobs. They had to move to different parts of the country in order to find jobs. Some were homeless, and others couldn’t support their families. Some adults even had to leave behind loved ones in order to find a job far away and send them the money.

Times were very hard during this time for everyone. These were dark times in the United States, man. We can only hope that we have learned from this experience, and that we may never have to see anything like this again.

There are many things about February that many people don’t know about. So here only a couple of things that you probably haven’t heard of.

1. The birthstone for February is Amethyst.
2. The month has 29 days in leap years, when the year number is divisible by four. In commo years the month has 28 days.

10. On February 6, 1899. The U.S. Senate ratified the peace treaty that led to the end of the Spanish-American War.
11. On February 6, 1952, Princess Elizabeth became Queen Elizabeth II of Great Britain.

SpaceX Project

 

In 2001 there was an idea called Mars Oasis, in which we would try and make a miniature greenhouse on Mars. But the problem behind this idea was how were we going to get our rockets over there. It would clearly be a problem landing them. And what if we wanted to colonize Mars?

There needed to be some way to for us to get the materials over there without always having to spend more and more money every time we want to send a new rocket.

SpaceX is changing that.

They’ve recently started a multitude of experiments in which the same rocket they launch can land. While this doesn’t sound like a lot, this is a major thing if we ever want to try and colonize other planets. It would allow for transportation, multiple uses of the same rocket, and would keep the same rocket working instead of having to create a new one every time we send something to the other planets.

They’ve recently been streaming all of their tests on their YouTube account, and the results are quite amazing. They show how their rockets can deliver a satellite into space, and then return in one piece on its own, and land safely.

This is a huge thing for many reasons. Usually in order to deploy things, you need a rocket, and it can only be used once. But with the SpaceX project, we can keep using that same rocket for as long as we need. They even have an official webpage.

Japanese Christmas Traditions

The Christmas traditions of Japan are Christian traditions without its religious matrix as practiced in a country where only one per cent of its population are Christians. Nevertheless, the Japanese as a whole celebrate Xmas with curious vigor that can rival those of believers. In Japan, you will find all the universal symbols representing Xmas filling not only the homes but even the communities. The Japanese industry provided the Christian nations with supplies of Holiday decorations, toys and trinkets. The Japanese community later absorbed these practices. The decorations of the Christmas traditions of Japan include all the elements. The Nativity scene is given a corner in every house. They also have turkey for Christmas dinner, Christmas trees, evergreens and mistletoe in their stores and homes and even Hoeiosho, the Japanese equivalent of Santa Claus, who is a Buddhist monk who bears gifts for the children. The family members exchange gifts and send cards with the true heart of giving. It is still undeniable that Christmas traditions of Japan is a time to spread happiness and romance. In this sense, the celebration is able to fulfill part of its purpose, even if the cynic and the traditionalist or conservative would say that it is due to commercialism.

Christmas Krampus

Christmas is coming right around the corner. There will be joy and laughs along with the old legends of Santa coming down the chimney to give you gifts. But there’s an even darker side to this story with a new movie of the legend coming out for it.

That’s right, it’s Krampus.

What was Krampus? Well he was a tall, dark figure with goat horns, the tongue of a snake, and the eyes of a dragon. He had a tall humanoid look and dark fur. His purpose was to take all the naughty children that were behaving badly during the year.

This legends originated in Old Christian region where parents used Krampus as a way to keep their children in line. Although he is also found in some Greek lore. Krampus is also known in places like over Germany. There are also places where he is known only as a creature who gave the children a huge beating instead of the eternal abyss.
